its an upgraded piston assembly for the spring version, has vented head and oring instead of the standard cast piston with solid rubber piston washer as mine has.
the air seal on my standard one is awfull and loses alot of power

ok chaps, received my K98 gas version from RSOV today and I must say Im very very disappointed!
:-x

First up theres a piece been snapped off the stock next to the bolt and its been very badly glued back on!
Theres a few dints and scratches around the stock
The black piece at the back of the bolt is very loose ( bit better when a shell is loaded in)
the false cleaning rod on the front is loose

the AEG's I have bought from them in the past have been superb! MP44, M4 etc

have sent them an email to ask why this was not checked properly on despatch and been given a ticket number,
probably be new year 2012 by the time they respond

check out the pics below :(

Looks like it's been a return they've "fixed". Hope you get it sorted.

Hi Rob,
That is dissapointing on a new gun. They ought to replace the stock for you ,at least.
The `black piece` at the rear of the bolt is supposed to be loose ( on this airsoft gun anyway). This piece is the cocking lug ( my name for it), it will actually unscrew from the bolt ( NO don`t ) . you may be able to make it a little tighter by screwing it towards the bolt more... rotate the cocking piece clockwise towards the bolt one full turn, then try to operate the bolt normaly and also once the gun is cocked try to apply the safety. If the coking piece will not tighten one full turn or if it will but the safety will not engage then unwind it back one full turn.. that is the optimum position for that assembly.
Please note that this information is pertaining to my spring version, the gas version may be different.

Pete.

ALSO, on the wood versions I have seen in the flesh ,the wood has been much darker and denser.

cheers fella,
have just gased it up and tried a test fire in the kitchen, shoots ok so its just an issue with the stock now really, although its gonna get striped and redone so you may not see the piece thats been glued back on :)

here we go

got a reply

Dear Sir

Sorry for the problem on your D-boys K98, and I can ensure every gun model must checked before pack to make sure no bad item will send to our customer. I do surprise to the photo you advise that the bad condition on your K98. May I know does the package have open when you receive? I m just thinking will the damage caused when custom inspection or during the long way delivery.
If the package was opened before, then it obviously not cause from RSOV but other drills during delivery (maybe, Just maybe inspection). And I’d suggest you to contact your local parcel force to check if the problem might cause from them

Thank you

Light

Sounds like this will get dragged out mate :(

Once you sand the stock down and stain it I'd be very surprised if you'd notice those flaws anyway.

The cleaning rod screws in, has it maybe came unscrewed?

Some of the cleaning rods on the Dboys Kar98s I've bought have been loose even when screwed in all the way. If it bothers you just epoxy it in, its just for looks anyways.

you need to unscrew it to fit a bayonet on. then you can clip the real steel one right on, i dont know if rubber ones fit

a few guys on here bought rubber k98 bayonets from the states. thought the cost was as much as a real one, i dont know if they fit, but my real k98 bayonet did fit on a dboys without ANY MODS , it wont fit on my tanaka without grinding the lug down a bit.

i think webby knows where to get the rubber ones from

Fieldwerks, and they cost more than a the real thing afer you factor in customs charges and the fact that you'll need a scabbard, and to cut a supporting plate if it's not a rigid scabbard.

I'm half tempted to start casting my own to make them more easily availible over here.

Warren of ShootNScoot is supposed to be doing these, (I lent him my k98 bayonet to make a mould), so if you want one it would be worth checking with him.

Surely these are more readily available in the EU than in the US?

Bayonets and scabbards arent really my thing but I would check some EU militaria sites for prices.

Yes of all the feldworks bayonets we got the K98 one was the most bendy. The others were actually all pretty good!
